Visitor from PhiladelphiaValarie Schwarz, Philadelphia League member, dropped into our office one day in late June. She had been in Honolulu for a month, helping out at the Marine Mammal Lab at Kewalo Basin, a contributing activity as a member of Earth Watch. Valarie who works for the public library system in Philadelphia, was co-editor of the Philadelphia Voter for some years and now serves as Publications Chair. Philadelphia has a population of 1,800, 000, and the city League has a membership of about 400. As we exchanged information about our respective Leagues, we discovered that we faced similar problems and had the same aspirations. MONEY seems to be one of their biggest problems as it is ours, and they have the same determination to find a way of freeing themselves of this continuing worry so as to be able to devote their energy more fully to implementing the goals of League.
