The People's Water Conference #4The Conference, held on January 16 at the State Capitol Auditorium, accomplished its multiple purposes well. It provided a forum for public dialogue on water issues that resulted in lively discussions concerning farmers, residential water uses and commercial uses. It provided its support to the Hawaii State Legislature, Governor Waihee, and the new Water Resource Management Commission in fulfilling the Hawaii Constitutional mandate that they shall "conserve and protect Hawaii's natural beauty and all natural resources... and shall promote the development and utilization of these resources in a manner consistent with their conservation and in furtherance of the self-sufficiency of the State."
