League Local News - Hawaii County

This year Hawaii County League published the first-ever Voter Information Pamphlets - Primary and General election editions. We had a very limited distribution. As many Leagues have learned before, we can do the information gathering but coming up with the funding for distribution is another matter. We did get our entire information put on the County web site, which was also a first.

The Hilo unit co-sponsored several successful candidate forums. We held a public forum on our Charter amendments also.

Members from both Hilo and Kona units volunteered to look into aspects of the Proposed General Plan which were of concern to our League. Comments were compiled and submitted as testimony to the Planning Director.

We had a very successful Annual Meeting. Our membership, both attending and voting by mail, overwhelmingly rejected splitting our League in two.

Marian Wilkins
President
