League of Women Voters' Democracy Net

The national League of Women Voters is making internet space available to all candidates on its Democracy Net at www.dnet.org. Here in Hawaii, over 40 candidates have asked for passwords to utilize their areas. So far, only a few have taken full advantage of Dnet by entering biographical information and statements of their positions on issues.

This access to the internet can be extremely valuable; one television station is charging $500 to candidates who wish to use its website. Our national office pays over $200,000 to operate the site this year.

Andrea Dean on Maui manages the Hawaii Dnet. The Maui and Honolulu Leagues sent letters to all candidates inviting them to participate in Dnet. When Honolulu receives email requests for passwords, they are forwarded to Andrea, who sends the passwords directly to the candidates. Do check out www.dnet.org and click on the map of Hawaii. Honolulu City and County Council District 3 has 3 candidates who have entered statements. We hope more candidates will use Dnet as the election draws near.
