My Favorite Testimony

The hearing room on HB 444, HD1 was packed. Many of us outside watched on video. Dozens of great testimonies later, I heard one that in its heartfelt simplicity, made me say, “That's it!” Here is the concluding paragraph of testimony presented by David Henkins.

“My daughter is 8 years old, and my son is 5. They are too young at this point for me to know their sexual orientation. As a parent, my only hope is that, whether straight, gay, bisexual, or transgender, they will find happiness in a committed relationship with someone they love. When they do, I want to ensure that they will enjoy the same legal rights as any other citizen of this state, regardless of the sex of their partner. Please pass this bill.”
