Discussion Leadership
Dr. Tom Gilson's demonstration program on discussion leadership last year offered advice well worth tucking away for future reference. Here is a check list to serve as a reminder to discussion leaders and participants as well:
Are "why" "how" and "what" questions used to stimulate discussion? Is a general question used to redirect everybody's thought when there is a stalemate?
Is the problem clear? Are the facts being considered relevant to the problem?
Are suggestions made to solve the problem? Is an attempt made by the group to decide which suggestions are best? Is there a feeling of accomplishment?
Is the purpose of the meeting clear, suited to a discussion type meeting? If not, could the purpose be shifted around, or should the type of meeting be changed?
