The LWV of Hawaii Was PresentAT CON - CON State Agenda chairman, Mrs. Arlen Scott, testified for the League at public hearings of the Constitutional Convention, urging consideration of the League's positions on election laws, and on a code of ethics. (See her report on page 6.) AT A BALLOT DRAWING A drawing for position on the ballot for the single seat on the Board of Education took place September 5 in the office of the Lt. Governor. Representatives of the Democratic, Republican and Peace and Freedom and Nonpartisan parties were present. Mrs. Marguerite Simson, president LWV Hawaii, represented the Nonpartisans. AT A KIWANIS MEETING Mrs. A. O. Marrack, Water Resources chairman, talked at an August meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Kaneohe on water pollution problems. She emphasized the need for organizations and individuals to show interest in implementation of the new State water quality standards, and urged them to push for legislative funding to meet Federal grants for local pollution control measures. AT AN INTERVIEW ON WATER POLLUTION CONTROL Mrs. Marrack accompanied Mrs. John Marr and Mrs. Ken Shutt of the Honolulu League to a meeting with members of the State Board of Health to ask questions about the problems they face in complying with provisions of the water quality standards. This department considers itself "in a squeeze" between the push-ahead-quickly Federal Pollution Control agency versus the hang-back, wait-and-see, can't-afford-it attitude of some industries and some local and state
officials.
