President's Letter

A flattering side effect of serving on the Elections Advisory Committee -- each and every County Clerk approached me to brag about how "their" League ladies were doing in the statewide 18-year-old registration drive. For your information, the committee unanimously recommended to the Lt. Governor the statewide adoption of the Datavote punch card system now used on Oahu and Hawaii.

The state board will soon be assembling an exciting committee designed to expand our membership, both in numbers and in viewpoints. Every state board is forming such a committee in response to the Black Caucus, which, at the 1970 Convention and 1971 Council, challenged the League to be more than a white middle-class organization. The Hawaii League especially should be many-hued. Call me if you want on the committee.

aloha,

Dorothy Bremner
