League Profile: Marian Wilkins

The State Board is very fortunate to have two wonderful Off-Board Chairs ; long-time League members who have carried the bulk of League study activity for the past several years. Marion Saunders, CoChair of Education, was profiled in the last issue of LEO HANA. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce, to you who may not know her, Marian Wilkins, our Election Issues Chair.

It is hard to encompass all that Marian does with one title. Since she joined the Hawaii League twenty years ago her interests and contributions have covered a range of issues around a central theme of government and citizen participation in government.

During the term of the last Board Marian was State Chair of the Election Laws Study and this term she has been in charge of the presidential primary portion of our Primaries Study. She is also author of the first, and coauthor of the second, of two Facts and Issues that summarize the results of these studies. Previously, she chaired studies on campaign spending, initiative and referendum, and unicameralism and legislative reform.

A former member of both the Honolulu and the State Boards, Marian continues to follow a range of government and election issues at the Legislature. She is an invaluable resource for the League, and the Board is happy to have this opportunity to recognize and thank her.
