UNMET NEEDS: THE GROWING CRISIS IN AMERICA

This report documents the findings of 723 community and state profiles regarding income, food, housing, and health care needs that are not being met in the U.S. today. The profiles include demographic information as well as the results of interviews with public and private social service providers. They also include the results of five hypothetical case studies that were used to assess the availability of assistance in each community. The final chapter contains conclusions drawn from an analysis of the data.

CHANGED FOREVER: THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS AND THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT

This important LWVEF publication documents for the first time the League's leadership role in the historic fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. The book draws on the rich ERA files in the national League office, a survey of all 50 state Leagues, and conversations with key League board and staff members involved in the struggle regarding the campaign and lessons for the future.

SAFETY ON TAP: A CITIZENS' GUIDE TO DRINKING HATER

This excellent 68-page guide provides the information and analysis that individuals need to understand the issues surrounding water safety and to participate in local decision making. It discusses how water gets contaminated, what contaminants are of most concern, how a typical treatment plant works, and how effective the federal Safe Drinking Water Act has been. It surveys the various policy issues involved in the management of drinking water and concludes with a Guide to Citizen Action.
