Help the Kauai League

Hurricane Iniki dealt a severe blow to the League of Women Voters of Kaua'i County just as it did to everything else on Kaua'i. Although the League was able to carry out its commitments for the fall election it has not been able to function since. The homes of many of its members suffered severe damages thereby limiting member participation. In addition, the League's meeting places have been commandeered for disaster purposes.

In order for the Kaua'i members to take part in the leasehold consensus process, each one was sent a copy of the study material and a consensus form. We are happy to report that many members did participate.

Both the State and National League have deferred the per member payments from the Kaua'I League even though it causes shortfalls in their budgets. However, Kaua'i would like to meet its obligations and would also like to be able to send their delegates to the State Convention in June. When this was mentioned at a recent meeting of the Honolulu League, its members suggested that other League members in Hawaii might want to help Kaua'i in this difficult time.

If you wish to do so, make your check out to the League of Women Voters of Hawaii with a notation in the corner that it is for Kaua'i and send it to the League office, 49 S. Hotel St., #314, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813.

Mahalo.
