Neighbor Island News - Hawaii County

The Hilo unit of the LWV Hawai'i County helped plan and produce a series of three TV forums in September. The series was called "Voters' Choice '92"; on successive weeks the office of County Prosecutor, candidates for the State Legislature and Mayor were featured. Of the 10 mayoral candidates, eight appeared in the forum. County Council races were not featured this year because Hawai'i County now has nine single-member districts; each of these races had multiple candidates.

State League Treasurer and LWV Hawai'i County CoPresident Sue Irvine moderated the first in the series, Ellen Boneparth, Dean of the UH-Hilo College of Arts and Sciences, the second, and Clayton Kua, Hawai'i Community College Instructional TV Coordinator, the third. Using the University of Hawai'i at Hilo interactive television system, the programs featured call-in questions from viewers screened by Cathy Tignac, Sue Irvine, Noelie Rodriguez, and Dorothy Doudna. The series was carried by Jones-Spacelink in Fast Hawai'i and was simulcast by Sun TV in Kona.
