President's Message

We thank everyone who has responded to our request for financial support of our League's activities. It is your help that makes it possible to carry out the projects we feel will be for the good of the community and the state.

For those of you who forgot, or otherwise have not sent in your support, we hope that you too will help us carry out our programs.

With Irene Coogan as our state coordinator for "Citizen's Voice for Citizen's Choice" -- Campaign for a Public Voice on Health care Reform, we are in the preliminary planning stage for the citizen's forum. At the forum we will review various proposals being considered in the U.S. Senate and House.

We will be looking at how the proposals will affect Hawai'i's health system. The forum will be held at the Mabel Smyth Auditorium on Saturday, April 9, 1994. Please be there to support this effort to educate the public on the government's efforts to reform the nation's health care system.

During the legislative session there will be hundreds of bills considered. If there is any issue you want to follow, and you need to see the bills, we will be getting all the bills, so please make use of them. If you want to testify on a bill(s) or issue(s), please call us.

Patricia Card has been following the activities of the Campaign Spending Commission, an area that has created much interest and many questions. Education and gun control are other areas we are following closely.

Election year is once, again upon us. There are many, many thoughts about politics in the media. There seems to be much dissatisfaction. Are the citizens ready to register to vote and then vote to make the changes they say are needed? How should we be involved? Can we make a difference? Please call us if you have an idea. Call us if you can help.

Again we thank you very much for all the support you have given. Please call us if you have any thoughts on what we should be considering.

We wish that this year will be a happy and prosperous one for you. Aloha.

Jim Koshi
