League Local NewsBig Island League Conducts Survey to Assess Community ConcernA random survey of Big Island residents recently revealed strong concerns about insurance, welfare, education, the environment, and health care. The survey was conducted by the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women, Hawaii Chapter. According to Big Island League President Helene Hale, seventy-seven percent of respondents said they planned to vote in the upcoming election and 72 percent said they voted in the 1994 elections. Responses from a total of 540 residents were recorded-255 females and 285 males. When asked what else the callers were concerned about, crime was mentioned more than any issue.
