The League of Women Voters of Hawaii strongly supports HB 329. We do not support the policy of “abstinence only until marriage”. Numerous studies have demonstrated that promoting delay of sexual activity until marriage has been a failure. Hawaii has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the nation. “Abstinence-only” sex education fails the youth of Hawaii. Our teens that chose to be sexually active must have the right information to keep themselves healthy and safe. Comprehensive and accurate sexual health education will provide the necessary tools to do this. We urge your support. Thank you for the opportunity to testify.
