The League of Women Voters supports SB 1061 which would ban political campaign contributions from lobbyists who lobby the Legislature during the time the Legislature is in session.

This should not pose a problem for lobbyists and legislators because the bill does not proposing banning all contributions entirely, but limits contributions to the period of time when the Legislature is not in session.

What it does do is lessen the perception of quid pro quo understandings and agreements. The news in regards to lobbying and lobbyists from our nation’s capitol certainly do not pass the smell test, and I believe that we should make sure that we do everything possible to prevent situations which would raise the perception of corruption to that level.

We urge you to pass S.B. 1051. Thank you for this opportunity to testify in favor of this bill.
