The Kokua Council has received a grant to convene another mock legislature on November 17 and 18, 2005, to be titled the "Model Legislature." The League of Women Voters voted to become one of the sponsors following a presentation by Laura Manis at a meeting of the Honolulu League. Arlene Ellis was named our representative on the planning committee.
The purpose of the mock legislature is to identify, train, and motivate a cadre of at least one hundred people to participate in the 2005 and 2006 regular sessions of the State Legislature as it deals with issues affecting seniors. The Model Legislature will give older citizens an excellent opportunity to learn and practice the skills of identifying important legislative issues, and participating in the legislative process as various measures are being acted upon by the legislative members.
Kokua Council and its partners expect that this process will benefit everyone concerned with senior issues -- families, professionals, the public at large, and policy makers -and will provide learning opportunities for Hawaii's older adults to develop their leadership and citizen participation skills.
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS MEMBERS ARE WELCOME TO BECOME PART OF THIS MOCK LEGISLATURE. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CALL ARLENE ELLIS. #9413724.
